Rounding out our current top ten recommendations are supplements that replace minerals, trace minerals, B vitamins in the best form, and supplements that boost anti-oxidant defenses.
  1. Fish Oil (omega-3s)
  2. Vitamin D3
  3. CoQ10
  4. Magnesium
  5. Vitamin C

  6. Sulforaphane (broccoli seed extract):  60mg per day.  *Over 200 studies in recent years show that this is the KING of anti-cancer herbs. Use only SGS, sulforaphane glycosinilates, specially licensed from the Brassica Vegetables Research Center at Johns Hopkins.  60mg sulforaphane per capsule is a good product and the dose ranges based on the patient’s condition.  We recommend one capsule twice a day as a preventive measure.  Sulforphane detoxes estrogens, many environmental pollutants, and is a potent, long lasting antioxidant.
  7. B-Complex:  Take only a B complex which uses riboflavin-5-phosphate (R5P) as B2, not riboflavin hydrochloride (HCl), and B6 as pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P), not pyrodixine hydrochloride (HCl).  R5P and P5P are the most absorbable and usable forms of the b-complex vitamins. There are many reasons why choosing pharmaceutical-grade supplements is critical.  Cheap forms of the nutrients are worth nothing to the body.  It’s one thing to be able to claim that a tablet or capsule contains something but another thing to actually have the nutrient in the form that the body needs at a dose that matters.  And don’t pay attention to the US RDA. These recommendations are usually just enough to prevent a disease, not enough to flood the body with nutrients and make you truly healthy.  We will write more on that later.
  8. NAC (n-acetyl cysteine), 600mg twice a day.  This build glutathoine, the most potent antioxidant our bodies make on their own.
  9. Alpha-Lipoic Acid:  Only in sustained-release tablets, 800mg in the morning and 400mg at noon.  If you use regular alpha-lipoic acid instead of sustained-release tablets, you are basically wasting your money. Alpha-lipoic acid only hangs around in the blood for twenty to forty minutes. All of the clinical studies that show how alpha-lipoic acid helps control blood sugar and recycle precious antioxidants like vitamin C and CoQ10 were done with slow intravenous (IV) infusions over four hours. The only way to duplicate this by swallowing alpha-lipoic acid is to use pharmaceutical-grade tablets with a sustained-release mechanism.  Be sure that your alpha-lipoic acid supplement includes biotin since alpha-lipoic acid depletes biotin and can lead to dry skin, rashes, and brittle hair and nails,
  10. Multi-mineral complex with Albion chelated minerals.  Chelated minerals are made the way our bodies were designed to take them in.  Cheap multivitamin and mineral supplements are basically crushed up rocks and dirt.  We can’t absorb the minerals this way. We’re supposed to eat lots of plant-based food.  Plants absorb minerals from the soil, chemically changing them or chelating the minerals when they do. When you take a mineral supplement, use chelated minerals to make sure that they are really absorbed and used.

There are my more nutrients that we need to supplement and I do recommend probiotics to everyone, 100 billion units per day (can use less of probiotics combined with sacc boulardii, and digestive enzymes before meals but I consider these to be foods which is why they are not on my Top 10 supplement list. It’s a sad fact that our diet is so nutrient depleted. Even if you eat fruits and vegetables, modern, industrialized agriculture doesn’t grow the vegetables the way nature intended. We have favored quantity and convenience in our diet rather than nutrient density. To stay healthy, don’t get sick.  This means that we have to flood ourselves with the critical nutrients the modern American diet lacks.
